We spoke to celebrity spray tanner to the stars & official Naked Tan trainer of Dubai – Manel, to hear all about her spray tanning business.
What made you want to move to Dubai and how long have you lived here?
I was living in Cannes, South of France, working on super yachts, and came to visit one of my close girlfriends who lived in Abu Dhabi in Oct 2012. I loved it so much and decided to move to Dubai 1 month later. Im born and raised in Sydney Australia and my origin is Palestinian, i can speak a little Arabic I’m just not so fluent, however it felt like home being here and I’m extremely happy i made that move.
What do you do for work in Dubai?
I own a spray tanning business operating from Color Iconic Salon Barsha 1.
I offer the most amazing natural looking spray tans, I’ve been spray tanning since early 2000’s and love what I do. I use an Australian Brand called Naked tan. It’s all natural ingredients, no Parabens, no SLS, no alcohol and no nasties, organic DHA and you can wash the tan off in 2 hours. Spray tanning is the safest and fastest way to achieve a golden brown tan. It takes me approximately 10 min for an application and 5 min drying time.
When I first started spray tanning in Dubai, people laughed and asked me “who would get a spray tan in Dubai it’s sunny all year round”, but I knew there was a market for it as most of us work around the clock and don’t have time tan plus it takes some time to achieve that golden brown colour women are looking for.
I love working for myself, my favourite part is the amazing women I get to meet along the way, I’ve made some beautiful friendships over the 8 years and I love the freedom to move around freely.
My thoughts on women’s empowerment, it’s important that women support each other, I believe in balancing feminine and masculine energy as us women have a great power within us, we are all goddesses we must let that shine.
Favourite clothing stores?
I’m a bit of a sporty spice so love Adidas and Fila. As for dressing up day to day I’m a mix n match of different brands, whatever looks and feels good.
Who inspires you?
My parents inspire me, teaching me family values and love. My mum and dad are best friends and married for 45 years. I’m also inspired by Spiritual science gurus that can help me grow and live a soulful life.
What advice would you give to your younger self?
If only I knew then what I know now. Definitely I would listen more and be more grounded.
