Black Widow Review
THE WALT DISNEY COMPANY,ITALIA FILM and NOVO CINEMAS in partnership with MISS DUBAI
Last night saw us attend Novo Cinema at IMG Worlds of Adventure for the 1st screening within the UAE for Marvel Studios’ Black Widow, and girl, it did not disappoint! We are however quite saddened at the fact that we can’t quite help but feel that Black Widow was in actual fact less about Natasha Romanoff (Scarlett Johansson) as it was her ‘sister’ Yelena Belova (Florence Pugh), we are not complaining though as Florence is an incredible addition to MCU’ phase 4 and was most definitely the star of Black Widow.
*We are going to do our best to not reveal any spoilers, however, please discontinue reading if you would like this film to be a complete surprise and forgive us for the spoiler above.
Black Widow has seen numerous of setbacks and delays with regards to its release date due to the pandemic which has allowed for this film to be awaited in anticipation by Marvel Fans and film goers alike across the globe. Black Widow is actually set back in time and takes place between Captain America: Civil War and before Avengers: Infinity War whilst seeing Romanoff on the run as a fugitive from General Ross.
In Marvel Studios’ action-packed spy thriller Black Widow, Natasha Romanoff aka Black Widow confronts the darker parts of her ledger when a dangerous conspiracy with ties to her past arises. Pursued by a force that will stop at nothing to bring her down, Natasha must deal with her history as a spy and the broken relationships left in her wake long before she became an Avenger.

Black Widow is centered around Romanoff having to go back to where it all started, and by ‘go back’ we mean all the way back to her child hood days. This film starts off by painting a picture of Romanoff’s past, one in which she has always hinted at but were never given an in-depth view of what contributed to her ‘trained killer’ ways. Black Widow does not disappoint when it comes to scenes you would expect to see in a Marvel film, however, with the introduction of the people from her past (Yelena) it also brings an element of empathy, forgiveness, banter and family! Romanoff and Yelena are absolutely hilarious together and their amazing offscreen chemistry oozes into their characters.
Watching this film with two ‘BadA$s’ women as the lead leaves us with a sense of empowerment and pride, yes, the film is fictional, but with films such as this and Captain Marvel it truly allows for our younger generation of girls to know that the sky is the limit when it comes to their hopes & dreams and that one day they too could become someone iconic in their chosen fields.
Do yourself a favour and watch Black Widow in Novo Cinemas IMAX theatre https://uae.novocinemas.com/experience/2/NOVO-IMAX for the most intense colour, contrast and sound you could possibly encounter.
